Letter from the Executive Director John’s service to our organization (and many others as well) has surely made Lincoln County a better place to live, learn and work. We will miss your service John. And while we are feeling sad, perhaps we should also comment on the funding application for our newest project, Blackberry Hill. BBH is our visualized, yet not build 8-unit workforce housing apartment complex in Toledo. We had hoped to be selected for funding in the spring cycle of grants but were not. We have submitted a new proposal for the fall cycle and hope to have positive news in mid-October. I visit the site (7xx SE 6th St., Toledo) regularly and always leave with a feeling of urgency to get this project built. My first site visit in early April revealed a nearly bare lot. My trip last week revealed why it is named Blackberry Hill. Thanks to Debra and her crews, (one person can be a crew, right?) the landscaping at Yaquina Breeze and Alder Hill are looking great. I am impressed with the care and maintenance of all our properties and wish to thank our many partners for their efforts to keep our properties in tip-top shape. I have been asked to speak at a town hall meeting in Toledo on the subject of Economic Development. If you are interested, September 20th at the new Fire Station in Toledo I’ll talk about some of the efforts I was involved with in The Dalles. I will also have information and time to visit with everyone about Blackberry Hill Apartments. Some good and interesting developments are going on in Toledo. Anyone wanting to help the organization, in pursuit of our Mission Statement is welcome to call or stop in to discuss opportunities for volunteers. David Huntington |
